Research your blog title

Let’s kick things off with the first tip – researching your blog title. This step is crucial as it helps you tailor your content to what your audience is searching for. Use tools like Google, Pinterest, YouTube, or Answer the Public to get inspired. Aim for a title that’s 60-75 characters long, including spaces. This ensures it’s catchy, searchable, and optimised for search engines.

Create consistent featured image templates

Next, let’s discuss creating a featured image template in Canva. This template will be your go-to for all your blog posts, saving you valuable time in the future. Simply swap out the aesthetics like the background image, featured image, and title, but keep the overall look consistent. The ideal size for this template is 1080px by 608px (please note: video say 700px by 395px but 1080px by 608px is better). Remember to give it a proper title using your blog post title with hyphens between each word and don’t forget to resize any images used. This not only saves time but also adds some valuable SEO value to your posts.

Craft a call to action footer image

While you’re in Canva, take a moment to create a call to action footer image template for the bottom of your blog posts. This image prompts your readers to take action after engaging with your content. Be sure to title it correctly, save it as a PNG, and compress it for optimal website performance. PNG format works well for this size image as it appears clearer on your website.

Navigate to WordPress dashboard

Now that your images are ready, let’s head over to your WordPress dashboard. Go to ‘Posts’ and create a new post. Add your title (without hyphens, those are just for images). Research category titles for some added SEO benefits. Aim for 8-10 categories that you can consistently use across your blogs. It’s important to choose a category as WordPress defaults to ‘Uncategorised,’ which isn’t ideal for the frontend.

Choose the Right Editor for Your Blog

When creating a blog post, you have a few options for editors. The WordPress default editor (Gutenberg) is a straightforward choice that helps you focus on content and SEO without the need for complex formatting. However, if you’re using a theme builder like Divi or Elementor, you can also use their built-in editors for more flexible and visually appealing layouts.

Regardless of the editor you choose, remember that a clean, informative layout is key. Aim to provide valuable content in a format that’s easy to navigate. While fancy designs can add appeal, the primary goal should be to engage your audience and support your SEO efforts through well-structured, keyword-rich content.

 Craft your Blog content

Now, it’s time to write your blog. You can use Google Docs, Word, or Canva to draft your content, then simply copy and paste it into the WordPress editor. Here, your h1 is already in place. Add h2 for subheadings, include some space, bold if needed, and then a 100-word paragraph. Don’t forget to naturally include your focus keyword, which is your title. Use headings, columns, images or lists (which are essentially bullet points) to break up your content and add visual appeal.

Include the footer image and link

As you finalise your post, remember to include your footer image with a link. This directs your readers to take action after consuming your valuable content. If you have an SEO tool, set your focus keyword and meta description. The meta description should be around 150 characters, including spaces. This meta description can appear on Google search results, making your post more clickable.

 Save, check, and publish

Save your post, then preview it on the frontend of your website. Ensure everything looks great and functions as intended. And there you have it – a well-structured, SEO-friendly blog post ready to go live on your WordPress site!

 Conclusion

I hope you found these tips valuable for creating engaging and SEO-friendly
blog posts on WordPress.

Until next time, happy blogging.
