Frequently asked questions

The questions small business owners ask

About websites, Google, prices and looking after a website once it’s live. If yours isn’t here, just ask.

Websites

New websites and redesigns

How long does a new website take?

It depends on the size of the website and how ready the words and photos are. You’ll know the timeline before work starts.

What do I need to provide?

Your knowledge of your business, along with any branding, logos, photos or existing content you have. You’ll also get help shaping the words, so your website clearly explains what you do and who you help.

Do I own my website?

Yes. It’s built on WordPress, so it’s yours and can move hosts if you ever need it to.

Which platforms do you work with?

New websites are currently built on WordPress. If your website is on Squarespace or Wix, Website Help can fix it where it is, without moving it. The Website and Marketing Check-Up works on any platform.

Will I lose my Google rankings if I redesign?

Not necessarily. A redesign needs to protect the work already done: redirects from old page addresses to new ones, keeping the content that matters, and checking Google can find the new pages.

Can you help with my domain name?

Yes. Your domain should always be registered in your name, because it’s your business’s address online. You’ll get help registering it or connecting it to your website.

Being found

Google, SEO and AI

Will my new website be set up for SEO?

Yes. Every website is built with the basics Google needs: clear page titles and descriptions, a sensible heading structure, image descriptions, a sitemap, and redirects from your old pages so nothing gets lost.

What do you actually do for SEO?

Practical, local SEO. Your Google Business Profile set up properly, service pages that say what you do and where, your business details matching across the web, and checking Google can find every page. The best place to start is a Website and Marketing Check-Up, which shows what’s worth doing first.

Can you guarantee page one of Google?

No, and be wary of anyone who does. The focus is on what you can check: your Google profile, your pages, and whether enquiries arrive.

Will my business show up in AI answers, like ChatGPT?

AI tools like ChatGPT and Google’s AI Overviews draw on your website, your Google Business Profile and your reviews. When those say clearly what you do, who for and where, and your details match everywhere, you’re much easier to describe correctly. Nobody can control whether an AI tool mentions you.

How long until I see a difference?

Some fixes, like a broken form, help straight away. Search and Google profile work takes longer, usually months rather than weeks.

Do you do social media?

Your social accounts can be set up and linked back to your website. Advice on what to post, and where, is part of the Check-Up’s marketing plan. Day-to-day social media management isn’t offered.

After launch

Looking after your website

What happens after my website goes live?

Your website is yours, so you’re welcome to arrange your own hosting and maintenance. If you’d rather hand that side over, Website Care covers hosting, updates, backups, security and ongoing technical support.

What does Website Care cost?

$99 a month, or $1,080 a year paid upfront, which works out at $90 a month. Website Care starts from launch and isn’t included in the website price.

Do you look after websites you didn’t build?

Yes. Your website gets checked over first, so you know what you’re starting with.

Can you fix my current website without a redesign?

Yes. Website Help starts with a check of your whole website, then every fix is made for you. It works on WordPress, Squarespace and Wix websites.

Can you look after a Squarespace, Wix or Shopify website?

Care plans are for WordPress websites. If yours is on Squarespace, Wix or Shopify, start with a Website and Marketing Check-Up. Or if you want someone to do the fixes for you  there is the Website Help service.

What if something breaks?

Get in touch. If a covered part of your website stops working, fixing it is part of the plan.

What counts as a simple change?

Swapping in wording or images you supply, updating contact details, opening hours or links, and fixing small errors. Anything new is quoted first.

Do I need a care plan to get help?

No. One-off support is available too, scoped and quoted before any work starts.

Prices

Prices and working together

Is GST included?

Not yet. Emmagraphy isn’t registered for GST, so there’s no GST to add right now. If that changes, GST will be added to these prices.

How do payments work for a website?

Once you’re happy with the plan, you’ll get a written agreement. Payment is in three stages, by bank transfer: 40% when you sign, 30% when you approve the homepage design, and 30% before the website goes live. The agreement sets out exactly what happens if plans change.

I only need a small fix. Is that okay?

Yes. Share what’s happening and you’ll hear what’s involved and what it costs before anything starts.

Do you only work with Melbourne businesses?

Emmagraphy is based in Melbourne and works with small businesses all over Australia. Everything can be done by phone, video call and email.

What if I’m not sure what I need?

Start with a Website and Marketing Check-Up, or get in touch to talk it through and find the right starting point.
